Owner Blaine Verbeek took over what was originally a buffalo meat-only shop in 2005. Blaine wanted to offer a wider range of exotic and specialty meats, so his first order of business was to rebrand the shop to Buffalo Valley Variety Meats. “I had been working here for about 18 months when the owner wanted a change,” Blaine said. “The location and shop haven’t changed since 2002, but I wanted to expand services and a name change was necessary for that.”
No stranger to the meat business, Blaine grew up on a farm, was experienced in hunting and processing meat, and had attended college for meat cutting not long before gaining employment with the previous owner. “I’ve always had an interest in it," he recalls. "I was 16 when I started looking for colleges and schools offering meat cutting courses.”
